FMX Breaks the Ice in North Dakota

The first stop on the FMX Tour was in Grand Forks, North Dakota, near the Canadian border.  This was the first time that FMX has had an event in Ralph Engelstad Arena, home of the University of North Dakota fighting Sioux hockey team.  The crowd was extremely pumped to have the FMX riders in attendance!  In addition to the high-flying trixters of MX, Jennifer Schneider, aka “Cannon Lady”, and Keith Whineland, national number five in Moto X Trials, was in attendance to keep the crowd on their feet, when the FMXers were not on the floor. The crowd was electric and was very loud and very appreciative of the show.
The event started off with a “pit party” for all to enjoy, the kids were all getting autographs from their favorite riders, and it was evident that the tour was getting started off on the right foot!  A new event was added to enhance the show…FMX P-I-G.  To explain, it was very similar to the basketball game, however with tricks.  The lead rider would do a trick and the rest would follow, if they didn’t do the trick, referees Rob and Kenny, would red flag them off the track.  The winner of that event was JJ Romans who threw down a backflip and took out the competition.
Now, moving on to the FMX Competition, presented by the, “Local Toyota Dealers of Grand Forks”.  Qualifying was very tight, so tight that we took five riders to the Main, instead of four, due to the fact their was a tie for the final spot between Eric Farr and South Dakota’s Ryan Logan.  The top three qualifiers were JJ Romans, Chris Taylor and Ben Veyna, in that order.  In the main event, Ryan Logan took Eric Farr off the hotseat working the, “I’m a local” and putting together a good routine, but it wouldn’t last long as Ben Veyna of Las Vegas put together a near perfect run, highlighted by his signature move a, “Holy Rock Solid”, which is a Holy Grab to Rock solid!  The crowd and the judges were on Ben’s side even after Chris Taylor, sponsored by Crazy Industries, put together a great run.  The “Hot Seat” turned cold for Veyna, after JJ Romans did a backflip and a one-footed backflip, and the crowd exploded!  Congrats to the All-Terrain Yamaha pilot Romans for taking home the win!  See you next week from Pensacola, Florida…aaah warm weather!!  Peace, love, and chain lube!!!
