Flip the Switch! Night one of competition here in
Providence Rhode Island was intense to say the least
as we kicked off a new year. The future for "08"
looks great, as a new list of riders made their debut.
Adam Cousino, Jadd Knox, Dan Newth, Rich Kearns,
and Scott Hanlon just to name a few young and upcoming
riders to try and make a mark here in Rhode Island.
Also, in the mix was veteran riders, Shawn
Conners, Brody Wilson, Greg Hartman, and Thomas Alves
who wanted to show the newbies how to throw down.
Out of the first five to try and grab one of the five
spots to advance to the finals was Dan Newth and Shawn
Conners. With four riders left it was time to take a
break from the FMX action and Move to the Globe of
Death.
Erwin, Melvin, and Olga Ureeis came out and killed it.
They had three riders crisscrossing and going
upside down in a cage of steel that weighs 5300 LBS!!
It was amazing!.
The last three to make the finals was Rich Kearns,
Brody Wilson, and Thomas Alves. So the finales were
for sure gonna be off the shizzee!!
Moving on to the Head to Head competition it was narrowed down to
Shawn Conners, Brody Wilson, and Thomas Alves. Alves
came out and threw a huge "W" flip which is a cross
between a heel clicker flip and no-footer. Wilson
snapped a huge Heart Attack, and Conners went for the
sterilizer and crashed out. But this was a crowd
judging contest and in the end the crowd gave it
Conners, he became a Providence favorite!
But before we let the boys battle to be the night's
champion, we would turn the mic and floor over to Big
Mike, and his BMX riders. The three riders Corey
Burlar, Pat Locklin, and Ogi Simonscene, came out and
rocked the house! Backflips, Front Flips, you name it
they did it.
In the finals it came down to Rich Kearns and Thomas
Alves. Rich Kearns threw down a great run with a
K.O.D, Shoaulin, and a huge Whip Flip which kept him in
the hotseat all the way to the end. With one last
rider to get a chance to bump Rich out it was time for
Thomas Alves, who came out with a superior run. He
started the run with a K.O.D, Helicopter, "W" Flip,
Holy Grab, and a huge whip flip! In the end Thomas
beat the Kearns 92.0 with a 93.0 even. So way to go
Thomas Alves! Lets see who will reign supreme tonight.
Saturday 7:30 PM
Turned the switch on last night, and turned if off the hook tonight! What a great way to finish up here in Providence, RI. It was all about the Dunkin' Donuts hot-seat and these guys were all fired up to qualify to take the hot-seat, but first they had to make the finals. It was Dan Newth MMI "Mechanic" making the first spot with a clean run. Also making into the top five was Shawn Conners, Brody Wilson, Rich Kearns and last nights Dunkin' Donuts FMX winner Thomas Alves. In the Ogio Head to Head contest, we saw Jadd Knox, Scotty Hanlon, and Shawn Conners battle it out. In the end it was last night's Ogio winner repeating his winning streak as the crowds roar would determine. He nailed a McMetz to a no-handed lander and would repeat his respect that came from the sold out crowd here in Providence. Way to go Conners! Once again the crowd was dazzled as the Urias Family cranked and spun inside the Globe of Death. The globe has been around the world over 15 times! The Hell on Wheels BMX stunt team worked the crowed with multiple flip and whip variations, and finished up their time with a bang and a huge front-flip. Who knows maybe you will see them soon at a show near you soon! In the finals it was a showdown! But with any showdown there is only one left standing. Conners held the Dunkin Donuts hot-seat through all the riders until Rich Kearns, who knocked him off with a solid run and several flip variations. But with one rider left who had the flip, he would have to sweat in the hot-seat through Brody Wilson's run. Brody who is a run sticker in competition missed a trick?! So to say the least, he did not take the seat from Kearns. It was now time for Alves to put it all together to try and repeat. He came out on fire and let all the tricks out of his overloaded arsenal- after he unloaded 4 flip variations and an overall close to perfect run. Thomas Alves once again would go on to repeat! Way to start the season Thomas! We have what appears to be a great rivalry for "08" Maybe you will see it unfold in a city near you soon!
It's been a great weekend here in Providence!
Peace,
