No
Gators Were Harmed in Lafayette! First
off- if you are reading this Saturday morning, and you weren't at the show- you
need to buy your tickets for Saturday night! An All-Star crew of riders thrilled
the fans in the Cajun Dome on Friday.
The
DoSomethingAmazing.com Head 2 Head competition saw some huge tricks and a bit
of a surprise in the final bracket. The big man John Distler took his CRF450 out
for a huge trick proving that four strokes can jump big. His was the first one
to put a thumper into a final this year but it was just a tiny bit shy of the
win. The last jumper to go out was Jesse Jolson "The Young One". He put his OGIO
Yamaha on top with a huge KOD which won the crowd over.
Riding
the Extreme Riding Entertainment moto-trials Montesa was Geoff Aaron. The ten
time national champ helped to put trials on the map in Lafayette and I am sure
he converted a few fans to the balance and guts driven sport. The 720 Action Sports
BMX Team came out next and wowed the crowd with huge tail whips and some incredible
flips while also working the floor with some wicked flatland.
In
the Acadiana Toyota Dealers FMX Final only five riders were able to contend for
the Toyota Hotseat. Jolson went first and got himself nice and comfy on the stage
while waiting to see who could unseat him. Followed by impressive runs from Jimmie
McGuire and Derek Burlew-neither with a score high enough to take the win, Jolson
sat tight while Brian Foster jumped within half a point according to the judges.
Coming out last and looking to take the win, Dustin Nowak busted out three flip
combinations then some huge conventional tricks to take the win and blast Jolson
off the Toyota Hotseat.
We
will be doing it again (but definitely not the same) on Saturday so make sure
you are there!!

Night
Two in Lafayette Bigger Than Ever!!
In
the Lafayette, LA Cajun Dome not only was the crowd bigger- but the tricks were
too! It just goes to show- The louder YOU get, the bigger THEY go!! There were
no clear cut winners going into the nights festivities so I knew it was
going to be a classic battle for the win.
The
Extreme Riding Entertainment Moto-Trials exhibition went off without a hitch as
Geoff Aaron responded to an enthusiastic crowd with tricks I have never seen him
do. He had a smile on his face and terrified me when he had me join in for the
fun. Those who were there saw what he did to me- those that werent? Well,
you gotta go to the show!!
The
boys from the 720 Action Sports BMX Team came out and did some crazy stuff on
the sub box and a huge quarter pipe. Back flips, truck drivers and tail whips
were accompanied by some of the best flatland maneuvers we have seen on tour.
Onto the FMX!
We started them off with the Air Force DoSomethingAmazing.com Doubles competition.
It pits a three paired teams of riders who jump at the same time trying to impress
the judges. In this case it was the fans that got to pick who hit it for the win
and who hit the bricks. Jimmie McGuire and Dustin Nowak used a well choreographed
horsepower ballet to win the crowd over as evidenced by the thundering applause.
Since the fans did such a great job judging, we decided to toss in something extra
by giving them a Best Whip contest sponsored by Racer X Illustrated magazine.
The crowd favorite was John Distler until he went down hard when his wheels werent
lined up on the landing- and we thought the flip was dangerous! He got up with
some road rash and the crowd went nuts when they saw he was okay, but unfortunately
unable to continue. But then came Derek Burlew who got it flat and
whipped out which made the crowd go even crazier. They rightly awarded him the
win on the night.
The
FMX final presented by Your Acadiana Toyota Dealers was a hot contest and tough
to judge. Tough as in all five finalists finished within two points of each other!
Burlew was the first to relax in the Toyota Hotseat pulling down an 88.5. It was
not to last long as the Wacker, Dustin Nowak, popped three different
flips to score a 90.5 and the Hotseat. Jesse Jolson was the third to go out and
scored an 89.5 and the general consensus was if he had a flip (or Dustin had one
less) he would have been in the hunt for the win. Brian Foster busted out some
old school tricks executed flawlessly yet could only score 88.5. Last man out
and last chance to unseat the Wacker was Sean Nielsen. Still sore from the previous
evenings crash, he did his best but came up a half point shy of the win
which sealed the deal for your winner- Dustin Nowak.
So
where are we going to next? Well there are plenty of shows to choose from so check
out the schedule and get your tickets fast! And a big thanks to the fans of Louisiana
(Hint- we will be in Baton Rouge in a few weeks if this wasnt enough for
you!) for being so hospitable and showing us that southern charm.
