Oakland shows the attitude!
It was a beautiful day in Oakland, CA and the home of the Raiders welcomed the performers from IFMA with lots of great noise and attitude. The show featured the "Bullet" David Smith, Moto-Trials expert David Chaves, the "Servin' it Up" XSBA crew and of course a host of freestyle riders hitting the ramps. The combination of a concrete floor that was cold and the humid bay air made the course very slippery and even a coating of the "secret sauce" couldn't make it perfect. The IFMA track crew did all they could but mother nature and science would not let up. The fans got the riders pumped and they still managed to put on a show.
The "Bullet" launched himself over 150' and 65' into the air after his WIFE pulled the trigger and shot him out of the cannon. He hit the net perfectly much to the delight of the crowd. Moto-Trials rider David Chaves impressed the fans with his mastery of the machine leaping up and over vertical obstacles higher than five feet tall! The local "Servin it Up" crew of Xtreme sport bike riders did an exhibition with huge smoky burn-outs, no-handed wheelies and large and in charge rolling stoppies.
The eight rider Big O Tire Qualifier saw just four riders make it into the final. With the "Rat Fink" Johnny Ebenol scoring a 65 after struggling on the slippery surface. Grant Teel scored in third with a good run and solid tricks getting a 90. Jumping into second was Billy Walls KTM who came out with the big pop again nailing a 91. Keeping it closer was Jeff Banks and his 93 which only edged out Billy with the backflip.
First to go out in the East Bay Motorsports FMX Final was Ebenol who crashed out mid way through. He was uninjured but in pure "Johnny Style" got back up and gave the crowd some more even though he knew his chances of a win were gone. Teel was next and he fell on the slippery floor before his run even started and banged his hand up. He still soldiered through and made a run for the rabid Oakland fans. Walls came out and after a thorough check of the track and went to town on the ramps. Great extension and variety put him into the East Bay Motorsports Hotseat. It was not to be his win tonight as Jeff Banks threw not only good clean tricks out but four backflip variations in order to clinch the top prize.
I really want to thank all the hardcore fans in Oakland for being patient and showing that you were truly FMX diehards! Make sure to check out Coast to Coast right here on the site and look at the new shirts and hats.
