Freestyle Motocross

Friday 8:00PM

So the IFMA series returns to Glendale, AZ in top-notch style. It was IFMA series regular “Big Bad” Billy Walls taking the win in front of a packed Glendale Arena. Billy came into the final as the top qualifier, and with big tricks like Billy’s Scorpion Kiss of Death and a Lazy-Boy that seemed to go on forever. It was another notch in the belt for the veteran IFMA rider.

The big surprise of the night goes to 19 year old, Phoenix local and crowd favorite, Thomas Alves. Thomas has been training and practicing with Arizona legend Jim McNeil.

“I’ve been hitting the foam pit pretty hard the last few weeks,” said Thomas. “Jim has helped bring my game to the next level, and it shows.”

Alves who is competing in his first IFMA ever was looking good and had a final run good enough for second place.

Also making an appearance to the IFMA tour was the Hessian Aggression founder and FMX OG, Robert Distler. Robert made sort of a victory run as the Arizona native came out for an encore ride to the audience’s approval. The crowd was pumped to see “Lil-Distler” back on the course, so were the rest of the riders. If Friday was any testament, look for big tricks and hotter moves out of the locals here in Glendale.

Saturday 8:00PM

It was a great night of freestyle motocross in the Glendale AZ. The arena was near maximum capacity as Dustin Nowak takes the win. It was a three rider shoot-out going into the final. It was Billy Walls, last nights winner, the local boy Thomas Alves and of course the night’s winner Dustin Nowak.

Dustin Nowak set the pace with a score of 93.0 and had to sit and wait as local all star Thomas Alves tried to knock him off. His score of 92.2 was not enough to take over Dustin. So now it was up to Friday’s night’s winner Billy Walls to try to topple the tough score of 93.0. Billy’s run was solid, but with no flips, Billy’s score of 91.7 was only good enough for third.

“It feels good to get on top again” said Dustin Nowak. “I just came off the Dew Tour, so that stepped up my game big time” said Dustin. Thomas Alves on the other hand was pumped just to be riding in front of his home town crowd. “The energy was just crazy here,” “I just felt good and it all came together” said Thomas.

It was an awesome night of FMX here in AZ, props go out to Robert Distler, who made a guest appearance as a founding member of the Hessian Aggression. The crowd was digging the big whip from “lil-dis” and there was nothing but respect in the air. If 2006 is any sign of what’s to come, I can’t wait until next year.
